How to Style Long, Tunic Tops

Posted on June 17 2016

One fashion trend we are seeing a lot of this summer is the long tunic-style shirts. Take a quick look at Pinterest and see what we mean! This style is great because it’s incredibly versatile. You can easily achieve so many different looks with one shirt just by styling it a little differently than your normal every-day length top. We’ve put together a few different ways for you to try making your outfit a little more interesting.

What to Pair Them With

First things first, pairing your long shirt with the right bottoms. Because the top is so loose fitting, offsetting with a more fitted bottom is important. Skinny jeans and leggings are great. Fitted shorts are also a great option. As always, make sure to take the time to choose great accessories and shoes to complete your look.

The Front Tuck

Now that you have chosen which pants to wear, how to style the top comes next. This first look is so easy – you literally just tuck in the front. This style option works great with both pants and shorts. Add a little extra flare to this outfit by wearing the perfect shoe. This Farrah Clog from Free People just does that, it subtly adds just a little extra something to cap off this look.

Tie a Knot

Another styling option for your long tunic-style shirt is to knot it. Try gathering some of the shirt in the front or to the side and tying a knot. This helps add a little shape to your overall look and adds interest to the outfit. Paired with denim shorts, long layering necklace and some Birkenstocks, this outfit is perfect combination of fashionable and comfortable.

We are all about layers here in Oklahoma. With our crazy weather, it’s never a bad idea to have an extra layer on – or two. Another way to style a long-shirt look is to layer it with another top. With a button down like this Verenda Split Top, unbutton and wear it as a vest layered on top of a colorful v-neck like this. Try adding a long necklace to keep with the theme of long, layered pieces. This outfit would look great with flats or booties, but we are partial to the way these mules from Dolce Vita seem to complete this style out perfectly.
